We are very pleased to welcome our newest agent, Gary Humm to Boatshed Essex. He’s really looking forward to helping you find Beneteau boats for sale, Fairline, Jeanneau, and Quicksilver motor boats for sale too. Gary will be dealing with boats for sale in the coastal town of Brightlingsea on the “Tendring Peninsula”.

You’ll find Brightlingsea between Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea, at the mouth of the River Colne, on Brightlingsea Creek. The colourful beach huts, skate park, swimming pool, boating lake, and paddling pool along the western Promenade give it a holiday feel and Bateman's Tower, has recently been renovated by the Colne Yacht Club with a Lottery Fund grant. You can find out more about Brightlingsea at The Brightlingsea Town Guide.

Gary currently owns and runs an on site maintenance company in Brightlingsea. Brightlingsea Boat Maintenance cater for all vessels from the traditional to the modern day. The team undertake all repairs from traditional wooden boat repairs to GRP repairs and will make sure you get the best service at the most competitive price.

Gary says,

My family have all been seafarers of some sort or another scattered all over the east coast. As a child it was the most talked about subject in our household and living in Brightlingsea it became a natural instinct to own and sail a boat of my own. In fact I now have a small fleet!

My first boat was a beloved small pram dinghy. It had a lugsail and taught me a huge amount about sailing during this time. I’ve owned sailing and power boats which have all helped in gaining the experience necessary to become a confident and able sailor.

What is your current boat?

Where do I start?! I have a 34 ft. Cockle Bawley, a Hurley 24. I also have a 2 1/2 ton Blackwater Sloop and a 20 foot open motor launch! I should definitely start to think about saying no to anymore but being surrounded by boats all day , sometimes the temptation gets too much!

How long have you been a broker?

I have been in the business of buying and selling boats for the last 15 years but due to the fact I also run my own boat maintenance company on the island, often have customers approach me on the island often looking to sell or buy so the opportunity and need is already there. By joining Boatshed Essex it really creates the perfect partnership, they are already a well-respected local broker and I have the clientele. It’s a win in my opinion!

Naturally the best thing for me is to spend most of my time on and around the water. I also love meeting the variations of people within the boating community’s. Everybody had their own preferences as to what they consider their “ideal boat” so to be able help and be a part of that process, I’m looking forward too.

What is the best thing about boating in Essex?

Essex is full of little creeks which are there to explore and out of them you have the challenge of sand bank hopping 2 feet under your keel is common place but it makes sailing interesting. You can’t beat it.
