British Waterways Marinas Ltd, one of the largest marina operators in the country, has appointed Boatshed.com as its sole provider of brokerage at its marinas in the South and West.
The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has taken temporary ownership of the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Village in Portland. 700 athletes and 550 officials will stay at the Sailing Village, with about half that number using the accommodation during the Paralympic Games.

This Saturday is the 10th Linslade Canal Festival, a free community event promoting rural arts and crafts, conservation, canal life and the heritage of the town's green spaces. It is organised by Leighton-Linslade Town Council and supported by Central Bedfordshire Council and The Canal and River Trust. You will find Linslade on the Grand Union Canal, on the Bedfordshire-Buckinghamshire border.

La Loire est le Fleuve le plus long de la France avec une riche histoire de navigation. Elle a servi de transport d’hommes comme de marchandises et est étroitement liée à la vie des communes riveraines. Malgré ce rôle de transport incontournable elle ne fut jamais commode avec ses crues, ses sécheresse et ses bancs de sable qui se déplacent au fur et à mesure des saisons. Ses difficultés ont donné naissance à toute une gamme de bateaux avec et sans voiles adaptés aux particularités de la navigation Ligérienne et nous connaissons un intérêt resurgissant dans cette navigation d’autrefois, avec la construction de répliques et la naissance d’associations et d'évènements culturels. Deux répliques se sont joins à l’association des vignerons de la Côte Roannaise et se sont retrouvés dans le Port de Roanne pour la promotion de leur vin et la navigation. Les fûts de vins ont été longtemps transportés par le fleuve et il est naturel que les voiliers de la Loire se joignent aux vignerons de Roanne pour faire un petit bout de navigation ensemble. Lors d’une belle soirée avec dégustation et convivialité, les deux organisateurs ont été convaincu du succès de l’évènement et parlent déjà de l’année prochaine. Un expert de péniche à voile Stefan Fritz, a été ravis de sa visite et fasciné par l’évolution de ces Toués: Gabarres et Fûteraux si spécifiques à leur lieu de navigation. “J’aimerais bien voir un rassemblement de ces bateaux avec ceux de la Tamise et des Pays Bas et pourquoi pas faire quelques courses ensemble ? ‘’.
The river Loire longest river in France and known as the Royal highway was once a main artery for transporting goods and people in central France. Always a difficult river with many shallows and shifting channels it gave rise to a series of very particular sailing barges or flats. There has been a huge resurgence of interest in these old sailing craft recently and many replicas built. Two such vessels have been enlisted to help promote local navigations and local wine in the Roanne region. Built on the banks of the Loire the town of Roanne gives its name to the increasingly popular wines of the district know as Côte Roannaise. The Loire itself is now only navigable by canoe for most of its length but the Roanne à Digoin canal runs along side in the Loire Valley as does the Canal Lateral à la Loire. Both these navigations offer pretty and tranquil cruising grounds with quaint villages tempting markets and fascinating architecture (Particularly well known are the Roman churches ) The Côte Roannaise wines were transported by the Loire sailing barges for centuries, with so much history and tradition in common it is natural that they should join forces to promote interest in historical navigation and these increasingly popular wines. Visiting Sailing Barge expert Stefan FRITZ was present for the occasion and was fascinated by the way Loire sailing barges had evolved in response to their particular sailing conditions. “Wonder what they’d sail like down the Thames” he mused later, with a glass of Cote Roannaise in hand.

Phil and Boatshed Grand Union are long-time supporters of the National Community Boats Association which promotes community boating for young people and all kinds of disadvantaged groups. Phil is an ex-chairman of our local community boat, Dicks Folly and an ex-director of the NCBA. Boatshed Grand union sponsored the last AGM of the NCBA, which was attended by the Vice Chair of the Canal & River Trust, and the Waterways Minister.
Our boat of the moment is this immaculate Regal 1900LE with a Fastrac Hull. She is a superb bow rider with just 20 hours of use from new. The engine incidentally is the 225Hp version capable of a top speed of 55mph. When tested by boattest they found that it will plane in 3.2 seconds and reach 30mph in 6.5 seconds - not bad!
La flûte Britannique (appellé Narrowboat) Dibitu a pris des ailes pour rentrer à la maison. Après 10 ans de vacances en France Dibitu a été vendu par Boatshed Bourgogne et ses nouveaux propriétaires vont s’en servir comme résidence principale sur le réseau Britannique. Ni le vendeur ni les acquéreurs pouvaient être présents pour le grutage mais Graham de Boatshed Bourgogne s’est occupé de tout et a préparé le bateau pour son voyage alors que Steph. Et Morris Abbott attendaient l’arrivée de leur nouvelle acquisition dans le port de Milton Keynes en Angleterre. La manutention a été effectué par la société Lavenir de La Pacaudière et le transport par CPL d’Angleterre, tous deux rodés et qui ont travaillé comme deux pièces d’une belle mécanique horlogère suisse. Boatshed Bourgogne tient à les en remercier ainsi qu’au capitaine du port de Roanne pour son aimable accord et souhaite toute bonheur à Steph. Et Morris à bord du Dibitu.
59ft Pat Buckle Narrowboat Dibitu is going home. After more than ten years exploring the waterways of France NB Dibitu has been sold by Boatshed Bourgogne and is returning to the UK. Excited new owners Steph. & Morris Abbott eagerly awaited the arrival of their new acquisition due to arrive in the Milton Keynes Marina just one day after being lifted out in Roanne central France. Neither the vendor nor the new owners could be present for the lift out so Boatshed Bourgogne organised it and Graham attended the operation and prepared the boat for her journey. The lift out was done by the society Lavenir of La Paccaudière and transport assured by CPL of both of whom worked together like parts in a Swiss watch. Our thanks to them for their professionalism and to the marina manager for his kind assistance. Both Magali and Graham of Boatshed Bourgogne wish Steph and Morris every happiness and many years of happy cruising with Dibitu.
