Boating business sees Brexit as major opportunity

Friday, 18 August 2017

TheYachtMarket.com, which has a two-year deal to put its name to the Southampton Boat Show, says Brexit presents a great opportunity for the country’s leisure marine industry.

TheYachtMarket.com founder and CEO Richard W. Roberts, said: “I know that many within the UK leisure marine industry are disappointed over Brexit, but I am convinced that it will help our industry to re-energise and find new markets. As an island nation, Britain has led the maritime world for centuries. I have no doubt we have the products, skills and know-how to do it again.”

First Hurricane of the 2017 Tropical Atlantic Season

First Hurricane of the 2017 Tropical Atlantic Season

Thursday, 10 August 2017

Hurricane Franklin_Crossed the Yucatan Peninsular of Mexico earlier today Wednesday and is back over the tropical warm waters of the southern Gulf of Mexico in the Bay of Campeche. This is the first official named Hurricane of the Atlantic Season and is historically the busiest time for tropical activity in the Atlantic basin & Gulf of Mexico. The tropical storm that started earlier this week in the eastern Caribbean before crossing the Yucatan was forecasted to track west north west making land fall between Veracruz and Tampico, Mexico late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning before weakening and moving inland. This thankfully is no threat to any major populated areas and is way far south of the Boatshed Texas base in Corpus Christi, Texas to affect local concerns here, we will most likely see some higher tides than normal and possibly some rip currents and much needed rain as a bi-product of this thanks to Franklin. Each year residents are advised to take the proper precautions and always be prepared especially during the peak season. Hurricane season begins in the Atlantic Basin on June 1st and runs through November 30th.

Hull cleaning tool

Hull cleaning tool

Friday, 04 August 2017

The Scrubbis hull cleaning tool allows you to scrub the hull clear of fouling using a foam cleaning head on a telescopic handle. Scrubbis works by using its own 2kg positive buoyancy; the head pressing itself firmly against the hull to aid cleaning in hard to reach areas beneath the waterline. Now there are two new heads: a Waterline and Groovy cleaning head. Both fix to existing telescopic handles, which reach down from the jetty or from the deck to clean boats up to 2m draft. Scrubbis have also developed a 12cm square Indicator Plate, which can be hung in the water next to the yacht, or from the yacht itself. Pulled up from time to time, the plate gives a visual inspection of the degree of fouling likely to be residing on the hull.

Groovy Cleaning head: £50 Waterline head: £60 Telescopic handle accessory: £25 Fouling Indicator Plate: £4.70

OLAS, the man overboard location alert app from Exposure Lights is now available on Android as well as through the App Store.

Exposure Lights have also released a daunting new MOB video, showing how easily things can quickly go wrong, even in relatively calm conditions. Exposure’s research revealed that typically in many sailing partnerships at least one person has the underlying dread “what would I do if my partner went overboard”, meaning they find it difficult to relax or rest when the other is on deck alone.
