The “Workplace Challenge” sailing event is set to return to the Southern Region in 2018 after a successful pilot scheme last year.

If you have always fancied learning to sail, and you have got a few like-minded colleagues at work, this could be a great chance to get together and take the one-evening-a week course over six weeks and then beat your boss in a fun racing event at the end of it.

You would be one of several companies that will all be having a go, and your team could become the County Champion Workplace. Delivered by County Sports Partnerships, the Workplace Challenge aims to promote sport, physical activity and health improvements across the UK’s workplaces.

There are a couple of opportunities running here in the south.  Southampton Water Activities Centre starts a Workplace Challenge on 19 April, running for six weeks until 24 May, in single handed dinghies.  Sessions run from 1800 – 2000 (then 2030 when the evenings get lighter).  Contact SWAC for more information and to book.

Further west, Spinnaker Sailing Club in Ringwood are running their evenings on Mondays, starting on 16 April from 1730 – 1930, sailing in double handed boats. Contact Spinnaker Sailing Club for more information and to book.

Each company can field teams of three people and there are spaces for 15, so don’t delay in getting your team or teams together.  If you think you’d like to give sailing a go through the Workplace Challenge, make sure that your workplace is signed up as soon as possible.

The price is only £99 per person for the whole experience and regatta which is half the price of a normal learn-to-sail course, so it’s a great way to get involved.
