Having fun on the water is about getting the right boat for the job – which is why so many people consider buying a RIB as a cost-effective and relatively hassle-free way to securing that big grin that just says YES!!! Easy launching and shoreline handling together with good sea-keeping ability make purchasing a RIB a popular choice.
Samantha Gauld of Boatshed Newport with an update on the Tall Ships of 2012. After some research, I have been able to identify several other ships from my photos.
The river Loire longest river in France and known as the Royal highway was once a main artery for transporting goods and people in central France. Always a difficult river with many shallows and shifting channels it gave rise to a series of very particular sailing barges or flats. There has been a huge resurgence of interest in these old sailing craft recently and many replicas built. Two such vessels have been enlisted to help promote local navigations and local wine in the Roanne region. Built on the banks of the Loire the town of Roanne gives its name to the increasingly popular wines of the district know as Côte Roannaise. The Loire itself is now only navigable by canoe for most of its length but the Roanne à Digoin canal runs along side in the Loire Valley as does the Canal Lateral à la Loire. Both these navigations offer pretty and tranquil cruising grounds with quaint villages tempting markets and fascinating architecture (Particularly well known are the Roman churches ) The Côte Roannaise wines were transported by the Loire sailing barges for centuries, with so much history and tradition in common it is natural that they should join forces to promote interest in historical navigation and these increasingly popular wines. Visiting Sailing Barge expert Stefan FRITZ was present for the occasion and was fascinated by the way Loire sailing barges had evolved in response to their particular sailing conditions.
“Wonder what they’d sail like down the Thames” he mused later, with a glass of Cote Roannaise in hand.

Our boat of the moment is this immaculate Regal 1900LE with a Fastrac Hull. She is a superb bow rider with just 20 hours of use from new. The engine incidentally is the 225Hp version capable of a top speed of 55mph. When tested by boattest they found that it will plane in 3.2 seconds and reach 30mph in 6.5 seconds - not bad!
59ft Pat Buckle Narrowboat Dibitu is going home. After more than ten years exploring the waterways of France NB Dibitu has been sold by Boatshed Bourgogne and is returning to the UK. Excited new owners Steph. & Morris Abbott eagerly awaited the arrival of their new acquisition due to arrive in the Milton Keynes Marina just one day after being lifted out in Roanne central France. Neither the vendor nor the new owners could be present for the lift out so Boatshed Bourgogne organised it and Graham attended the operation and prepared the boat for her journey. The lift out was done by the society Lavenir of La Paccaudière and transport assured by CPL of both of whom worked together like parts in a Swiss watch. Our thanks to them for their professionalism and to the marina manager for his kind assistance. Both Magali and Graham of Boatshed Bourgogne wish Steph and Morris every happiness and many years of happy cruising with Dibitu.
It was a fine day along the channel at Ocean Cliff Resort in Newport where you could find me having lunch at the Safari Room whilst watching the Tall Ship parade of sails. What a spectacular sight.

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a rare Super Seal 26. Designed by Ron Holland and built originally by John Baker just 100 were built before the rights were sold to Parkers. They then continued the design as the Parker 27, after various interior layout changes going on to become the Parker 27. They are known for being fast little yachts with the distinct advantage of a very shallow draft (just over a foot) and a good interior layout. This example appears to have been very well looked after and the Yanmar engine install in 1997 looks particularly impressive. In December 2000 "Sailing Today" magazine listed the Super Seal as one of the "top five used boats of the year", along with some old favourites such as the Contessa 32 and Elizabethan 30. Their review gave it five stars for performance, and four for accommodation, which they described as ".... much better than you would expect in such a fast boat." Incidentally, the RYA quote a Portsmouth Number of 976, making her faster than a Contessa 32, and also faster than many 34 foot cruising yachts!
4th July in the year 2000 was Independence Day – for me. As a young twenty something I became a proud home owner for the very first time, and that home was a 45 foot red narrowboat called Emily Rose. I knew very little about boats but I’d met some friendly boaters on the towpath and they introduced me to their mates, and they were all glad to share their boating wisdom and advice with me. I learned to steer a boat, tie knots, check the oil and recognise the sound of a loose fan belt. And yet other things beneath the deck-boards remain a mystery to this day; some things are better left to the experts!
The ships from the P&O fleet sailed into their home port before dawn yesterday.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Ocqueteau 775. This is a very well laid out boat with a large cockpit and spacious wheelhouse. Although dated 2004 the boat was used as a demonstrator and not actually wetted until 2008. The cockpit can be fully enclosed with a cockpit enclosure to create additional space and cockpit cushions ensure plenty of comfortable seating. Below, the heads are to starboard and a large double berth to port under the cockpit. The boat has been cleaned and polished throughout. Please note that the sink and gas hob need to re-connected by a qualified gas installer. Included with the sale is a Selva 4-stroke auxiliary outboard.
Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.
