This is where we publish our boat related stories and articles, which range from world circumnavigation to rescue missions, humour and much, much more. So make yourself a coffee and settle yourself down to a good read.
Despite a rather wet couple of days, in the middle of the week long show, the attendance was better than expected during the global financial crisis at the 24th Empuriabrava used boats show here in the Costa Brava, Spain. We managed to convince some owners that this is the prime time to try and attract the fewer buyers that are actively searching for a boat and to reduce the prices of their boats to sell in the current market.
Boatshed Dartmouth are pleased to offer for sale an example of the ever popular Westerly Griffons. Just over 320 were built from 1979 to 1981 making this Griffon one of the last original Griffon 26’s built. Without doubt the Griffon is that bit bigger, faster and easier to handle than the Centaur. This one is presented clean and tidy throughout with just some of the headlinings needing attention. Appointments to view can be booked in advance and generally are available 6-days a week
Pacific Nor’West Boating – Adventuring Afloat in the Pacific Northwest is a new e-magazine and home to well-known editor and marine writer Chuck Gould!
The sun is out and the new boating season has started! Boatshed Norfolk is looking forward to some great weekends on the Norfolk Broads at some of the events already planned for 2012. Make sure you have these dates in your diaries and we look forward to seeing customers both past and present out and about on the water:-
We have had several new listings recently. This 30 foot narrowboat with Cruiser Stern comes with a mooring at Broxbourne.
As you may well know, we are based at Fambridge Yacht Haven; a charming location on the River Crouch, set in the beautiful Essex countryside. Fambridge Yacht Haven have recently joined the RYA Active Marina Programme which aims to encourage Berth Holders and their crew to make the most of life with their boats. With the support of West Wick Yacht Club and local training centre First Class Sailing East Coast, the RYA are launching a new programme of free marina-based training workshops and social meet-ups. We were happy to be the broker that recently sold First Class Sailing East Coast one of their training yachts. There are a number of fun events scheduled throughout the summer, starting off with the programme launch and WWYC Open Day on 19th May. Boatshed Essex will be at the open day and all berth holders and their crew are invited.
Some of Madoc Yacht Club members from Clwb Rhwyfo Porthmadog, North Wales will row from Arklow in Ireland to Aberystwyth as part of the Celtic Challenge sometime between May 4th-7th weather permitting. It’s a gruelling 100 mile race across the Irish sea.
The Boat House Cafe at Swanwick marina is now open ! What has been known for years as the "Dog House" and then for a short period as "Valshedas" which closed earlier in the year has now risen from the ashes as a great waterside cafe / bar with great views across the River Hamble. Good service, good food and value for money is what Peter Delbridge of www.boatshedhamble.com has to say about it. Just look at my pictures and the current menu.
We still haven’t had enough rain to make all of our canals fully operational, with only 38% of the long term average rainfall for February being experienced in Southern England.
Our boat of the moment is a new listing. She is a 57ft narrowboat built by Colecraft and has a mooring in Uxbridge.
The sun is out and the new boating season has begun and the Boatshed Norfolk team are out and about listing and undertaking viewings on the wide range of brokerage boats currently available.
What an awesome sight for the residents of Ipswich Haven Marina to wake up to this Thursday morning. So many tall ships they're rafted 3 deep against the quayside at Ipswich.
That’s right; you know you enjoy those long bank holiday weekends, sailing or boating with friends, but have you ever thought what you’re really buying in to?
Cast your mind back to New Zealand 2002, after an absence of 16 Years, a Great Britain team re-entered the cauldron that is the America’s Cup.
Boatshed Dartmouth are pleased to offer for sale a beautifully crafted, UK built, performance, gaff-rigged Heir Island Sloop day boat. 23 boats have been built and most are sailed in SW Ireland and raced in Baltimore Harbour. When asked by the owner and co-builder to come and see this yacht for the first time I was struck by her good looks and attention to detail in the building of her. The Heir Island Sloop is unquestionably the finest designed and built gaff-rigged daysailer available – she is very pretty, sails like a dream and is beautifully finished. The hull is grp; deck, seats, coamings, spars are all hardwood timber (Iroko or Utile) and the fittings are all bronze or stainless steel. A more detailed brochure is available on request along with a review from Bill Mayher of Wooden Boat Magazine. This boat is in mint condition having been sailed for about an hour and the engine for about 15 minutes! The asking price is some £5000 under the intended UK new price.
Boatshed Dartmouth are pleased to offer for sale what is really a nearly new Beneteau Antares 750HB. As you can see from the detailed photos at Boatsheddartmouth.com some of the boats inventory has not been used – the covers are still on both the interior and exterior upholstery! Also, as a result of a theft a new Suzuki outboard was installed in July 2011 and it has run for approximately 4 (four) hours! In short, this is the opportunity to purchase a boat that was £50,000 new just over a year and a bit old at a huge discount. The engine of course is still in warranty.
Boatshed Dartmouth are pleased to offer for sale a Trophy 2052. The boat is presented in very clean and tidy condition and of greatest importance is the fact that the engine and outdrive was replaced in 2008. The engine has only done about 150 hours and as can be seen from my photos looks to be well maintained. I have also included photos of the outdrive to show just how well presented this boat is. Overall this is a really superb boat for pure leisure of for sports fishing. The deep safe cockpit is great for children and the cabin provides as least enough room for overnight trips.
I love the charm and history of the old working boats, even though I know that the reality of life for a working narrowboat family was a perpetual struggle of hard graft and making ends meet. Not to mention the accidents at work and the short life expectancy!
Starting with two weeks of school holidays, we have an event packed month ahead. As well as annual favourites such as the Egg and Shell Hunt and Early Morning Beach Walk, this year we have added in a Marine Creature Shadow Puppet workshop and a special Solar Heritage trip to learn about navigation in Chichester Harbour.
Waterline Boats / Boatshed Seattle has several select wooden-hulled boats in its brokerage inventory. Would you consider wood? Don’t be so quick to say “no.” The fact is that you can get a lot of boat for your dollar when purchasing wood. Today’s market finds many wooden vessels being offered at astounding prices — in many cases these boats have been thoroughly and lovingly upgraded and are offered at a fraction of their recent cost to upgrade. Sure, a wooden boat will require an attentive maintenance program to maintain its condition. But with a huge savings on the purchase side that commitment to maintenance can be more easily tolerated. The right wooden boat can provide a long, happy and successful boating future!
